Climax, CO is a small unincorporated community located in Lake County, Colorado. Situated at an elevation of 11,360 feet, it is one of the highest settlements in the United States. Originally a mining town, Climax was established in the late 19th century due to the discovery of rich deposits of molybdenum, a valuable mineral used in steel production. The Climax mine, which operated for over a century, was once the largest molybdenum mine in the world. Today, the town is mostly abandoned, with only a few residents remaining, but it still holds historical significance as a testament to the mining industry's impact on the region.
